“Operation Starlight”
“Operation STARLIGHT” is a Dallas Police Department Narcotics Division led investigation in conjunction with the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office, with assistance from theDallas Police Department’s SWAT Unit and Gang Unit. The investigation targeted an armed Drug Trafficking Organization (DTO) operating in the area of 2900 Walnut Hill Lane, Dallas, Dallas County, Texas. Several of the targeted suspects are career criminals and some of them are believed to be associated with criminal street gangs and a drug cartel. Many of these individuals have long histories of both violent felony and state offenses that include Aggravated Robbery, Burglary, Manufacture and Delivery of Controlled Substance, Possession of Controlled Substance, and Parole Violation.
“Operation STARLIGHT” primarily focused on the leadership of the organization that was supplying the drugs. The leaders of this organization supplied numerous individuals with large quantities of Methamphetamine “ICE” and powder cocaine which was repackaged and sold in various drug houses and business’ in the Northwest area of Dallas, the Uptown area of Dallas, the City of Garland, the City of Grand Prairie and the cities of Farmers Branch, Carrollton and Arlington.
Those arrested in “Operation STARLIGHT” are believed to have distributed large quantities of illegal drugs since 2008.
On September 27, 2010, the investigation was presented to the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office which resulted in multi-count state arrest warrants returned on the top twenty (20) members of the organization for Engaging in Organized Criminal Activity, a felony one (F/1) offense. In addition to the state defendants, one (1) federal arrest warrant was granted charging the individual with Conspiracy to Distribute a Controlled Substance.
According to Deputy Chief Andy Acord, “This mid-level investigation highlights the skill level of the Dallas Police Narcotics Division. Conducting mid-level drug investigations we believe makes a significant impact in improving the quality of life in our neighborhoods. Our citizens deserve drug free neighborhoods.”
During the week of October 4, 2010, the investigation culminated with law enforcement officials arresting twelve (12) individuals.
