The Irons’ Public Intoxication Arrest

"On February 23, 2011, at approximately 4PM, Officers Latasha Moore, #9443 and Bryan Riser, #9586, responded to a disturbance call on Hudspeth Avenue regarding a family disturbance. The disturbance involved Ms. Dianne Irons and her nephew Raymond Robinson.

"Subsequently, Ms. Irons was arrested for Public Intoxication because it was of the officers’ opinion that Ms. Irons exhibited the symptoms of one who may be intoxicated. However, Ms. Irons is a stroke victim with documented evidence in her medical reports of slurred speech and unsteady balance. The Department regrets that we did not recognize Ms. Irons’ medical condition."

Therefore, in the best interest of justice, the Department is taking the following steps:

•A complete Internal Affairs Investigation into Ms. Irons’ complaint.

•Requesting dismissal of the Public Intoxication arrest through the Chief Prosecutor of the municipal courts because of Ms. Irons’ medical condition.

•Re-emphasize to members of the Department the changes that the Department made on February 11, 2010, which requires proper documentation for the reason the person was a “danger to himself or others.”

•The two involved officers will be attending a 40 hour Crisis Intervention training course March 21-25, 2011.

Chief David O. Brown and Assistant Chief Vincent Golbeck are visiting with Ms. Irons to personally inform her of steps the Department is taking."
